National Forest Martyrs Day is being observed today. The day honours the brave forest guards, rangers, and community members who lost their lives protecting the country’s forests, wildlife, and biodiversity. 

 

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupender Yadav paid tribute to the forest officers who made the supreme sacrifice for a sustainable future. In a social media post, Mr Yadav said, India’s extensive biodiversity is guarded by a dedicated workforce of forest officers. Remembering the fearless officers who laid down their lives fighting forest fires, smugglers, and poachers to protect the country’s natural wealth, Mr Yadav said that trees, wildlife, and rivers are not merely natural resources, but form the life-support system for humanity.
