Mumbai gears up to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of Ganesh idol immersion processions on Anant Chaturdashi, with more than 24,000 police personnel and over 25,000 civic officials and employees set to be deployed across the city tomorrow.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has made extensive arrangements for the final day of the Ganesh festival, with 67 natural immersion sites and 383 artificial lakes at 278 locations available across the city. The civic body has deployed 1,132 lifeguards and arranged 6,052 floodlights and searchlights at immersion sites. It has also kept 85 ambulances and 10 motorboats ready at various locations.
For crowd management and coordination, 261 reception centres, 228 control rooms and 75 observation towers have been set up. A total of 489 temporary toilets and other basic facilities have also been provided for devotees, the BMC said in a release issued on Thursday.
The BMC said preparations had been completed along the immersion routes, with 4,279 potholes on 506 roads and 171 drainage covers repaired. Obstructing cables were removed at 281 locations, while tree pruning was carried out at 515 locations.
The police security deployment includes 3,213 police officers, 18,940 personnel and 1,050 trainees, along with specialised units such as the Rapid Action Force, State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), Force One, Quick Response Teams, anti-drone squads and Home Guards.
