The Madhya Pradesh High Court has cancelled the anticipatory bail of retired district judge Giribala Singh in the Twisha Sharma death case. A Bhopal sessions court had granted her this bail on May 15.
Justice Devnarayan Mishra issued the order late on May 27 night. The court heard two petitions, one filed by Twisha’s father Navnidhi Sharma and another by the Madhya Pradesh Government.
The High Court made some important observations. It said that some injuries found on Twisha’s body were caused before her death. These injuries were not from removing the body or taking it to the hospital. The court also said that the sessions court had ignored the victim’s family’s allegations while granting bail.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the MP Government, told the court that after getting bail, the accused held press conferences and made allegations against the deceased. He said she showed no remorse and did not cooperate with the investigating agency.
The CBI also stepped in and demanded cancellation of the bail. The agency said custodial interrogation of Giribala Singh may be necessary. She can now be arrested by the CBI at any time.
Meanwhile, Twisha’s husband Samarth Singh was handed over to the CBI by a local court on Wednesday. The CBI team also took him to the house where Twisha was found dead on the night of May 12. He is on CBI remand till May 29.
The family of Twisha’s husband claims it was suicide. But Twisha’s family says she was murdered. The CBI took over this case from the Bhopal Police SIT on May 25.
