Mizoram has become the first among 16 states and three Union Territories to achieve 100 per cent digitisation of enumeration forms under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, three days ahead of the June 28 deadline set by the Election Commission of India. Officials in the Chief Electoral Officer’s office said the digitisation process was completed on Thursday evening.
As many as 1,301 Booth Level Officers have been carrying out the enumeration exercise across the state since May 30. According to officials, Mizoram had over 5.59 lakh electors during the last Special Intensive Revision in 2005. The number has increased to more than 8.75 lakh voters in 2025, including over 4.23 lakh male and 4.51 lakh female electors.
Officials said over 46,000 enumeration forms, accounting for 5.31 per cent of the electorate, could not be collected for various reasons. More than 21,000 electors were found to have died, while over 14,000 had permanently shifted from their original places. Officials said more than 2,100 voters have already been enrolled during the ongoing revision, while over 8,500 electors remain untraceable.
The Chief Electoral Officer’s office also said that 329 people across the state have chosen not to be included in the electoral rolls because of religious beliefs, particularly due to concerns associated with the Biblical “number of the beast”, or 666.
