Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Today took oath as the 23rd President of Bangladesh at Bangabhaban in Dhaka.
The oath was administered by the Acting Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal. Mr. Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was elected President yesterday after defeating Oli Ahmed, who was backed by the Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party alliance. He secured 255 votes against Mr. Ahmed’s 88 votes out of 343 valid votes cast in the presidential election held yesterday.
The last presidential election in Bangladesh to be decided through voting in Parliament was held on October 8, 1991.
