Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy has said that the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill passed today by the Parliament will not take away rights from any state and not impact the revenue structure of the state.
Addressing media in New Delhi, Mr Reddy said that the Bill is aimed at increasing the production of major minerals. He said, the centre is working for increasing investment and employment in the mining sector through whole of government approach. The Minister said that the share of revenue of the states from the mines sector has increased to 85 per cent from 65 per cent. Mr Reddy said that with the reforms brought by the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi the revenue of the states from minerals has increased by 23 percent. He stressed that government is working on four pillars focusing on getting minerals, increasing employment, strengthening the states financially and reducing the import dependencies on coal and minerals.
