Meghalaya suspends new foreign travel proposals following PM Modi’s austerity directive

The Meghalaya government has suspended all new foreign travel proposals in compliance with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s austerity directive.

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma made the announcement and clarified that only the foreign visits that had received prior political and financial clearance before the Prime Minister’s announcement were allowed to proceed. He added that such official trips involve months of preparation, including approvals from the Centre, travel bookings, and coordination with host governments.

Around seven to eight new proposals have been kept on hold, he informed. He also stated that his own planned overseas visits have been suspended as part of the government’s compliance with the directive.
