The Meghalaya Cabinet has approved the Meghalaya Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2026, under which buyers of electric vehicles will receive an incentive of 25,000 rupees along with a complete waiver of vehicle registration fees.
The policy covers two-wheelers, three-wheelers and four-wheelers, while additional incentives linked to the state’s scrappage policy are also being considered.
Meghalaya currently has over 5,000 electric vehicles, and the state government aims to encourage wider adoption. Commercial charging stations will be established at identified locations, and entrepreneurs will be encouraged to set up vehicle scrapping centres.
