Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today chaired a meeting of the Meghalaya State Council on Climate Change on preparedness for El Niño and the potential climate-related challenges ahead. Inter-departmental convergence, proposal of Block-Level Climate Action teams, rejuvenation of springs and critical water sources, and expansion of plantation initiatives, especially in vulnerable catchment areas were discussed.

The Chief Minister has directed that the District Climate Adaptation and Resilience Task Forces be immediately activated. He also emphasised the strengthening of grassroots IEC and awareness for communities and stakeholders to understand the risks and know how to respond.
