Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh today attended the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, 2026 in Manipur’s Bishnupur District. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister announced that a special financial assistance scheme for women street vendors of the State will be introduced before Ningol Chakouba, 2026 to help meet their families’ daily needs. He said those who are yet to register may do so through their respective MLAs.
He said the month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan is being observed across the country to acknowledge 25 years of public service by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and to carry forward the spirit of public service and good governance. The Chief Minister said the 2023 crisis had a drastic impact on the State’s economy, incurring huge loss in GST revenue. He noted that frequent bandhs and blockades cause a loss of around Rs 25 to Rs 30 crore per day in tax revenue, and appealed that differences be settled through dialogue rather than agitations that affect normal life.
Recalling his visit to Jiribam district, he said the trust deficit among different communities after the crisis has been substantially bridged and communities are now living in peace and harmony. Expressing anguish over the tragic incident at Tronglaobi that claimed the lives of two innocent siblings just after his Jiribam visit, he said certain vested interests continue to work against the government’s efforts to restore lasting peace.
He informed that public transport services along NH-2 connecting Imphal with Guwahati via Dimapur have resumed and people are actively availing it. He encouraged people to visit the hills. The Chief Minister said the crisis has severely hit families dependent on daily wages. Following discussions in the recently concluded 8th Session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly, the government has decided to extend financial assistance of Rs 10,000 each to around 3,00,050 families, for which budgetary provision has been earmarked.
He appealed to all sections to keep aside differences and work together for unity and integrity of Manipur. During the programme, the Chief Minister distributed benefits under various government schemes to eligible beneficiaries of Bishnupur district and visited over 25 service counters and stalls showcasing schemes and services.
Earlier in the day at Sanjenthong, Imphal East, the CM attended a function organised by the Department of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry for distribution of pregnant heifers to SC farmers under the NEC-funded project “Dairy Farming – A Way of Life for SC Farmers of Manipur”.
In the first phase, 31 high-yielding pregnant heifers were distributed to 31 beneficiaries – 8 each from Thoubal, Kakching, Imphal West and 7 from Imphal East, selected through lottery. The programme was held in hybrid mode with 8 beneficiaries at Sanjenthong and 23 at Cattle Farm, Tangkham via live streaming.
The CM encouraged scientific cattle rearing to boost milk production and household income. The project covers 612 beneficiaries across four districts and aims to increase milk production, promote socio-economic upliftment and generate employment. The Director (Vety & AH) urged beneficiaries to enrol the animals under the Livestock Insurance Scheme for which premium has been deposited with NICL, Imphal.
