The main accused arrested in the rape and murder incident in Baruipur, South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, has died in an encounter during a crime reconstruction.

Pravash Mondal, the prime suspect, allegedly snatched a service firearm from a police officer at around 12:45 AM on the night between Tuesday and Wednesday. He fired one round and tried to flee the scene. Following an ensuing shootout, the accused was severely injured and was declared dead on arrival at the Baruipur Subdivisional Hospital.

Pravash Mondal was arrested in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a minor girl. The three other arrested are at present in police custody.
