Maharashtra pays tribute to Swatantryaveer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar on 143rd birth anniversary

On the occasion of the 143rd birth anniversary of Swatantryaveer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, tribute programmes were organised across Maharashtra today. In Mumbai, Governor Jishnu Dev Varma paid floral tributes to Savarkar’s portrait at Lok Bhavan, while in New Delhi, Devendra Fadnavis honoured him by garlanding his portrait. In a social media message, the Chief Minister described Savarkar as a brilliant litterateur, a pioneer of linguistic purification and a great patriot. At the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai headquarters, officials paid homage by garlanding Savarkar’s statue.
 
At Bhagur in Nashik district, the birthplace of Savarkar, the Town Council officials garlanded his statue, followed by a ceremonial procession accompanied by music. Actor Vijay Patkar and officials from the Department of Archaeology were present on the occasion. In Nashik city’s Panchavati area, dignitaries offered floral tributes to Savarkar’s statue installed by the Municipal Corporation. In Dharashiv, the Jayostu Pratishthan paid homage to Savarkar through ceremonial worship of his portrait. The 143rd birth anniversary celebrations were also held at Swatantryaveer Savarkar College in Beed district.
