Maharashtra paid rich tributes to Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak today on the occasion of his death anniversary, with commemorative programmes held across the state.
In Ratnagiri, Tilak’s birthplace, District Collector Manuj Jindal garlanded the full-size statue of the freedom fighter and visited a photo exhibition and a display of artifacts depicting his life and legacy. In Pune, Union Home Minister Amit Shah presented the Lokmanya Tilak National Award to National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and said the Central Government has transformed India’s defence and offensive capabilities over the past 12 years. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar, and several other dignitaries attended the ceremony.
In Thane, MP Naresh Mhaske inaugurated a grand mural and beautification project at Lokmanya Tilak Chowk in Charai. Mhaske said Lokmanya Tilak had delivered inspiring speeches in the area and that a mural was created in his honour as permission for a statue could not be obtained. Several organisations and institutions across Maharashtra also organised programmes to pay homage to Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak on his death anniversary.
