Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today paid tribute to freedom fighters on the 84th anniversary of the Quit India Movement.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Fadnavis said the patriotism and sacrifices of the freedom fighters continue to inspire generations. He said August Kranti Din honours the countless freedom fighters whose courage and determination strengthened India’s struggle for independence.
Leaders cutting across party lines also paid homage to the freedom fighters. Schoolchildren and people from different walks of life visited the martyrs’ memorial at August Kranti Maidan in south Mumbai to offer tributes.
The Quit India Movement was launched by Mahatma Gandhi in Mumbai on 9th of August in 1942, with a decisive call to end British rule. It marked a major turning point in India’s freedom struggle.
