The 2 Maharashtra Naval Unit of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), based in Ratnagiri, successfully concluded its Most Enterprising Naval Unit (MENU 27) Open Sea Sailing Expedition with a flag-in ceremony on October 31, 2026.
The 10-day expedition, conducted under the banner ‘Konkan Gyan Tarang’, covered approximately 250 km along the Konkan coast, from Ratnagiri to Palshet and back. The contingent undertook the voyage using three 27-foot DK Whaler boats, navigating challenging Arabian Sea conditions through tidal navigation and sailing operations.
As part of the expedition’s theme, ‘Navigating Knowledge, Anchoring Progress: Sailing Towards the Ideal Konkan’, cadets conducted street plays at various coastal locations highlighting issues such as equal access to education, women’s empowerment and the eradication of child labour. The expedition included a challenging 350-foot rappelling descent and familiarisation training in water sports such as kayaking and parasailing.
