PET-CT scans, which are essential for cancer detection, disease staging and monitoring treatment, will now be covered under the Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Jan Arogya Yojana and Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana in Maharashtra. The Public Health Department has issued a Government Resolution adding PET-CT scans as an additional diagnostic procedure under 63 cancer treatment packages.

For 13 specific types of cancer, the scan has also been included as a standalone or primary diagnostic procedure. The decision is expected to reduce the financial burden on cancer patients who previously had to pay for the expensive test themselves.
