Maharashtra: IMD issues Orange Alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Konkan region

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and the Konkan region for today. According to the IMD, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 50-60 kmph are very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of North Konkan. Heavy rainfall at a few places and very heavy rainfall at isolated locations is also likely in the region.
 
The weather agency has further forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places in the ghat areas of South Madhya Maharashtra. In Marathwada, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 50-60 kmph are expected at isolated places today.
 
Meanwhile, the IMD has announced the further advancement of the Southwest Monsoon into parts of Maharashtra and forecast widespread rainfall across several regions of the state over the coming week.
 
Konkan is likely to experience fairly widespread to widespread rainfall from today until June 30, while Madhya Maharashtra is expected to receive widespread rainfall today and on June 26-27. Similar conditions are forecast for Marathwada from today until June 26.
 
The IMD has also warned of thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds with speeds of 40-60 kmph over Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada from June 26 to 29. Additionally, thundersquall conditions with wind speeds reaching 50-70 kmph are likely in these regions today and on June 25.
