Maharashtra Govt to Set up detention centers for foreign nationals indulging in drug peddling: Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis

Maharashtra Government today informed the state assembly that detention centers would be set up for foreign nationals indulging in drug peddling, overstaying their visa limit, and committing petty crimes to evade deportation. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who is also the state’s home minister, said that the Anti-Terrorism Squad will be appointed as the nodal agency to control the distribution of the banned drugs. The minister further informed that security has been tightened at the borders to keep a check on the transportation of banned drugs.

Meanwhile, members of the opposition parties continued to create a ruckus and disturb proceedings in Maharashtra’s Legislative Council for the second day. They were demanding the removal of  Deputy Chairperson Neelam Gorhe, following her move to switch to Shiv Sena led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. In his reply, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis clarified that Mrs. Gorhe was eligible to run the house as she was and continues to remain a member of the Shiv Sena. On the issue of an alleged viral video of former MP Kirit Somaiya, the Deputy Chief Minister said the matter will be thoroughly investigated.
