Maharashtra FDA files case against 10 individuals, including executives of Reliance, Blinkit & Zomato Hyperpure

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has registered a case in Thane against 10 individuals, including senior executives of Reliance Consumer Products, Reliance Retail, Blinkit and Zomato Hyperpure, over the alleged illegal sale of expired food products. The action follows a recent crackdown in Thane and Pune districts, during which food stock worth over 48 lakh rupees was seized.

According to FDA officials, the investigation revealed that expired, damaged and customer-rejected food items, instead of being destroyed as required, were allegedly reintroduced into the market for sale. The agency responsible for disposing of these products allegedly issued false destruction certificates without verifying whether the goods had actually been destroyed. Officials also found significant discrepancies in records related to the disposal of the food items.
