Maharashtra authorities have established contact with 338 of the 404 people from the state stranded in the Nepal-Tibet region following the August 26 flash floods and confirmed that they are safe, according to a state government report released today.

Of those confirmed safe, 37 people have left Saga in Tibet and are being transferred to India, while 105 citizens from Nagpur have already returned to the country.

However, 60 tourists who travelled to Nepal through Mumbai-based Richa Tours Pvt Ltd remain untraceable, with authorities yet to establish direct contact with them. Information on six other citizens was received through an online link, but officials have also been unable to contact them.

The Ministry of External Affairs has provided Maharashtra with a list of 149 Indian citizens from different districts of the state who are currently safe in China or the Tibet region. The list has been forwarded to district collectors for verification and coordination.

The State Emergency Operations Centre is coordinating with the MEA control room, district administrations, travel agencies and families, while rescue teams have been deployed as required. Efforts to trace the uncontactable tourists are continuing.
