Maharashtra CM Fadnavis lays foundation stone for 3 National Highway Projects in Pune

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis laid the foundation stone for three major National Highway projects in Pune today, aimed at improving connectivity and easing traffic congestion in and around the city.

Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said that highway and infrastructure projects worth nearly Rs 50,000 crore are being implemented in the Pune region. He said the city will get its first three-tier single-pier transport system, integrating a road, an elevated flyover and a future Metro corridor on the same structure. The use of advanced Malaysian technology, he said, will reduce construction time, project cost and the number of support pillars.

Fadnavis said the projects, being implemented under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model, will mark a major milestone in Maharashtra’s infrastructure development. He added that the integrated design would reduce the cost of future Metro infrastructure by nearly 40%.

The three projects – Pune-Shirur Elevated Highway, Hadapsar-Yavat Elevated Highway and Talegaon-Chakan-Shikrapur Elevated Highway – have a combined length of 138.1 kilometres.
