Maharashtra CM Fadnavis calls for greater use of Marathi in Artificial Intelligence

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has called for greater use of Marathi in the field of Artificial Intelligence and emphasised the need to make knowledge and information resources widely available in Marathi on digital platforms. Speaking in Mumbai at the inauguration of ‘Classical Marathi Language Week’ to mark ‘Classical Marathi Language Honour Day’, he also stressed the need to create high-quality Marathi content on a large scale for OTT platforms and social media.
 
 
The Chief Minister assured that the state government would continue to support the preservation and promotion of Marathi language and culture. He said the Marathi dictionary published by the state government currently contains around three lakh words and called for expanding the vocabulary to 13 lakh words in future editions. He also emphasised preserving literature representing dialects, folk traditions and distinctive linguistic characteristics.
 
 
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced that, besides establishing the ‘Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Global Marathi Centre’ in London, the next World Marathi Literary Conference would also be held in the city. Marathi Language Minister Uday Samant said work was underway to compile 100 dictionaries covering various dialects spoken in Maharashtra and to establish ‘Marathi Skill Development Centres’ at nine locations.
