Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has urged citizens to immediately contact the cyber helpline 1930 if they fall victim to cyber fraud, including scams involving so-called ‘Digital Arrests’. He was speaking at an event organised by Maharashtra Cyber at Sahyadri Guest House, where he launched a short film aimed at creating awareness about ‘Digital Arrest’ scams, along with the ‘1930 Maharashtra Cyber Anthem’. He cautioned citizens against fraudsters who pose as police officers, CBI officials or judges and use intimidation and fear to deceive victims.

 

The Chief Minister highlighted the importance of the ‘Golden Hour’ following a cyber fraud. He said that reporting the incident promptly can significantly improve the chances of freezing or recovering the defrauded funds. Delays of three to 15 days can make recovery considerably more difficult, as the money may be transferred through multiple accounts. He therefore appealed to citizens to contact 1930 without delay as soon as they realise they have been defrauded.

 

Noting that mobile phones, online transactions, payment gateways and digital platforms have become an integral part of daily life, Mr. Fadnavis said the growing use of technology has also increased exposure to cybercrime. He stressed the need for the police to make effective use of modern technology to combat cyber criminals, while also undertaking large-scale public awareness initiatives to help citizens protect themselves from such fraud.
