Maharashtra’ Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has expressed deep grief over the death of 3 newborn babies in a fire incident at the District Women’s Hospital in Amravati last night. 

 

Chief Minister also announced financial assistance of 5  lakh Rupees to the families of each deceased infant. CM Fadnavis informed that orders have been issued to the State Health Department to conduct a high-level inquiry into the incident and assured that strict action will be taken against those found responsible.

 

Meanwhile, Health Minister Prakash Abitkar will be visiting Amravati this afternoon to take stock of the situation. 

 

Around 39  infants, including premature and critically ill babies, were undergoing treatment in the unit when the fire broke out early this morning. Fortunately, 36 infants were rescued safely in the incident.
