Maharashtra CM describes incident of lathi-charge during agitation for Maratha reservation in Jalna as very unfortunate

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde described the incident of the lathi-charge during the agitation for Maratha reservation in Jalna district on Friday as very unfortunate. Stating that it is being investigated at a high level, the CM said the state government was committed to providing reservations to the Maratha community, and nobody should resort to violence. He said instructions have been given to treat all the injured in this incident at the government's expense.

The CM said information about the incident has been taken from the Collector and Superintendent of Police. He also interacted with the leader of this movement, Jarange Patil, and requested him to call off the agitation while saying that the authorities are taking action on their issues on a war footing.

The CM said in November 2014, when the coalition government was in power under the leadership of then CM Devendra Fadnavis, the government announced the Maratha Reservation. He said the High Court also upheld the Maratha Reservation decision taken by the government. But the Supreme Court took a different decision.

He said the issue of the Maratha Reservation is currently in court and the state government is fully prepared to fight this case in court. The CM said there are some difficulties, and the state government is trying to resolve them.
