The 353rd coronation anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was celebrated with traditional fervour and devotion at Raigad Fort today, in accordance with the Hindu lunar calendar (tithi). The coronation anniversary had earlier been commemorated on June 6 as per the Gregorian calendar.
Addressing the gathering, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said the Maharashtra government is guided by the ideals of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and reaffirmed its commitment to the conservation and development of the historic fort.
On the occasion, Mr Shinde announced that the state government would grant immediate approval to a gravity-based water supply scheme proposed by the District Collector to permanently address the water shortage at Raigad Fort. He also reiterated that the government’s welfare policies reflect Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s vision of honouring and empowering women, adding that the Chief Minister’s Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana will continue without interruption.
Referring to the delayed monsoon, the Deputy Chief Minister assured farmers that the government would stand firmly by them in the event of deficient rainfall or drought. He said farmers, as providers of food, have the foremost claim on the state’s resources.
Mr Shinde also pledged that the government would work proactively to preserve and promote the 12 historic forts in Maharashtra, including Raigad, that have been accorded UNESCO World Heritage status, with the aim of enhancing their conservation and global recognition.
