The Maharashtra Cabinet today approved a series of decisions, including the institution of the Chief Minister’s Bravery Medal for police personnel who demonstrate exceptional courage and take risks while performing their duties.
The award will carry a cash prize of 50,000 rupees, along with a medal and citation, according to the Chief Minister’s Office. The performance of police personnel during the calendar year, beginning January 1, will be considered for the award. The recipients will be announced on the eve of Maharashtra Day on May 1, and the awards will be presented by the chief minister.
The Cabinet also approved an increase in the annual excavation limit for the Vadar community from 200 brass to 500 brass for traditional stone breaking and excavation activities, with amendments to the Maharashtra Land Revenue Rules, 1968.
The Cabinet further approved a substantial increase in the honorarium of superintendents, cooks, assistants and watchmen working in around 2,388 aided hostels run by voluntary organisations under the Social Justice Department.
Financial assistance under the Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Swadhar Scheme was also increased for eligible Scheduled Caste and Neo-Buddhist students who do not get admission to government hostels despite being eligible.
The Cabinet also approved revisions in allowances under the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Swayam Scheme for tribal students.
