Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has said the Mahanadi water issue will be resolved soon through dialogue. He said there is no scope for a dispute as both Chhattisgarh and Odisha have BJP governments, while the NDA is in power at the Centre.
The issue, pending before the Mahanadi Water Disputes Tribunal since 2018, has now been referred to the Central Water Commission. Odisha had raised objections in 2016 over upstream barrages in Chhattisgarh, alleging reduced downstream flows during lean periods.
In recent months, both states have expressed willingness for an amicable settlement through dialogue and technical consultations. A meeting between Chief Ministers Vishnu Deo Sai and Mohan Charan Majhi was facilitated by the Centre on July 30 under the chairmanship of Union Jal Shakti Minister C R Paatil.
