Mahalaya is being celebrated with deep faith and reverence across Tripura. The day began early in the morning with the special broadcast of Akashvani’s iconic devotional programme Mahishasura Mardini, recited by Birendra Krishna Bhadra.
Mahalaya is observed as a sacred occasion for Pitri Tarpan, when people offer prayers and pay homage to their ancestors. Since early morning, various sacred water bodies in Agartala have witnessed a huge gathering of devotees performing rituals and offering prayers for their departed forefathers.
On the occasion of Mahalaya, several cultural organisations also organised special cultural programmes.
With the observance of Mahalaya, the melodious tunes of Agomoni have begun to resonate across Tripura, heralding the arrival of Goddess Durga and ushering in the festive spirit of Durga Puja.
