Madhya Pradesh launches portal for public suggestions on Uniform Civil Code

The Madhya Pradesh Government has taken an important step towards the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). Chief Minister Mohan Yadav launched the website ucc.mp.gov.in at the Secretariat yesterday. Through this portal, citizens, political parties and social organisations can share their views and suggestions on the proposed UCC. The last date for submitting feedback is June 15 this year.

In April, the state government constituted a six-member high-level committee to examine the feasibility of implementing the Uniform Civil Code. The committee is headed by retired Supreme Court judge Ranjana Prakash Desai. It will study various laws related to marriage, divorce, inheritance and maintenance, and also examine the UCC models of Uttarakhand and Gujarat. Based on its findings, the committee will submit a report to the state government.
