On the first day of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly’s Monsoon Session, the state government introduced the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill, 2026. Assembly Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar said the House will take up the Bill for discussion tomorrow, following which further proceedings will be carried out.
The draft of the UCC Bill, 2026, was unanimously approved by the State Cabinet at its meeting held in Jagdishpur, Bhopal district, a day earlier.
Key provisions of the Bill include a ban on polygamy, a legal process for divorce, equal inheritance rights for men and women, mandatory registration of live-in relationships within one month and compulsory registration of marriages. The proposed law does not apply to tribal communities.
