Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla today said that democracy thrives on dialogue, debate, consensus and dissent. Releasing a unique 89-volume compilation of the proceedings of all 407 sittings of the Central Legislative Assembly from 1924 to 1930 at the Delhi Legislative Assembly, Mr Birla said that this collection will serve as an invaluable guide for future generations and democratic institutions. He said that it is the duty of governments to preserve the history, heritage and recorded debates of the leaders who fought for the country’s freedom. Mr Birla Said that India’s democracy also serves as a guiding example on the global stage. He said that the constitution and democratic tradition will continue to instruct future generations about how the democratic process, rules and laws operate. Mr Birla stated that the Delhi Legislative Assembly building stands as a living symbol and a glorious legacy of the country’s historical democratic consciousness, parliamentary traditions and the freedom movement.
Lok Sabha Speaker also launched the Delhi Legislative Assembly’s inaugural quarterly magazine named Vidhan-Chetna. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, Delhi Cabinet Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh and Delhi Legislative Assembly speaker Vijender Gupta also attended the event.
