Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has paid respects to Amrita Devi Bishnoi and all the martyrs who laid down their lives for the protection of Khejri trees in Khejadli village of Rajasthan during the 18th century. On Khejadli Sacrifice Day today, Mr Birla said that the memory of those environment-loving sacrificers remains an integral part of Rajasthan’s folk consciousness to this day.

In a social media post, he said that the story of Khejadli tells that the concept of environmental conservation is neither new nor modern in India. He added that Rajasthan is not only renowned for its tales of valour, sacrifice, and heroism, but also for a profound tradition of deep faith in nature. The Lok Sabha Speaker further said that the story of Khejadli reminds the citizens of their responsibility towards the environment around them.
