The Lok Sabha has been adjourned till 2 PM following opposition uproar over several issues, including alleged police action during students’ protest over NEET issue. When the Lok Sabha began its proceedings at 11 AM, Speaker Om Birla tried to take up the Question Hour, but the opposition members raised the issue of alleged police action during students’ protest.
The opposition members were demanding a statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah on alleged police action during students’ protests. Mr Birla urged all members to cooperate in smooth conduct of Question Hour. He said, Question Hour is an important part of the proceedings, which provides every member an opportunity to raise public issues.
Expressing displeasure over the conduct of opposition members, Speaker said, displaying placards or engaging in sloganeering in the House, is not appropriate in a democracy. Mr Birla said that Parliament is meant for discussion, for raising questions, and for meaningful exchange of ideas.
As the pandemonium continued, the Lok Sabha was adjourned till 2 PM.
