The Living Museum at Zokhua, the Mizo Typical Village in Falkawn, is attracting considerable interest by offering visitors a chance to experience traditional Mizo customs and ways of life first-hand. Since opening, the museum has welcomed a steady stream of visitors. Set up by the Art and Culture Department, the Mizo Typical Village aims to give younger generations a practical insight into the lives and traditions of their ancestors. It also serves as an educational resource for schoolchildren, helping them better understand topics covered in their textbooks. Visitors can explore and buy locally made Mizo handicrafts, while the initiative also provides a source of income for local residents and young people.
The Living Museum, which offers visitors a closer look at Mizo culture, holds live demonstrations every Saturday for an entry fee of Rs 100. These include demonstrations of traditional practices, along with cultural entertainment featuring folk music and dance.
Officials of the Art and Culture Department said the initiative was introduced in response to the growing number of visitors from outside Mizoram and increasing interest in local tourism among residents. They said the museum was intended to offer visitors more opportunities to experience Mizo culture firsthand while helping preserve and promote traditional customs and practices. The museum has been attracting a large number of visitors, they added. Activities at the Living Museum include demonstrations of traditional village life, traditional dances, folk songs and dances, indigenous games, traditional Mizo cuisine and traditional costumes.
