Chief Justice of India Surya Kant today said the nation has overcome several formidable challenges during the past eight decades, but much remains to be accomplished. Addressing a national flag-hoisting ceremony organised by the Supreme Court Bar Association at the apex court premises on the occasion of India’s 80th Independence Day, CJI Surya Kant said, the nation’s journey does not end with its achievements so far. The CJI added that the country’s legal and judicial institutions have also grown and matured remarkably alongside the Republic, playing an important role in shaping the conscience of the nation.
The CJI also recalled the contributions of Mahatma Gandhi and B.R. Ambedkar, whom he described as two of the greatest architects of modern India, along with Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Motilal Nehru, Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Lala Lajpat Rai. He said, their contributions demonstrated that the legal profession was not a bystander to India’s freedom struggle but an integral part of it. The ceremony was attended by several senior judges, lawyers and Supreme Court staff.
