Lebanon: 11killed in Israeli air strikes in southern part

At least eleven people were reportedly killed in Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon today. Lebanon’s National News Agency reported that one of the airstrikes hit a home in Ansar village killing seven people. Another strike on the village of Deir al-Zahrani killed four people while injured 17. Israel’s military said, it had struck Hezbollah terror infrastructure in response to what it described as an earlier action against its soldiers. Lebanon’s Prime Minister Nawaf Salam condemned the attacks, saying the people killed were not military infrastructure.

The attack is among the deadliest reported in Lebanon since the country agreed to a US-mediated peace framework with Israel. Under the arrangement, Israeli troops are to remain in southern Lebanon until Hezbollah is disarmed and the Lebanese army takes control of the area. Hezbollah, which is backed by Iran, has rejected the terms, describing them as unacceptable.
