In Ladakh, the two-day commemorative events marking the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas began today at Drass with the Yudh Sansmaran programme at Lamochen View Point, paying tribute to the brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice during the 1999 Kargil War. Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated on 26th July every year to mark the nation’s victory over Pakistan.
The programme featured a documentary on Operation Vijay, tributes to the Bravehearts, interactions with the Next of Kin of martyrs, and reminiscences by veterans who participated in the war. Senior Army officers, civil administration officials, veterans, Veer Naris and invited guests attended the event.
The celebrations will continue later today with Vijay Bhoj and the Shaurya Sandhya ceremony at the Kargil War Memorial. Tomorrow, Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh will lead the main Kargil Vijay Diwas commemorations by paying homage to the martyrs at the War Memorial.
