In Ladakh, more than three thousand participants from across the country took part in the Sarhad Shauryathon 2026, organised by the Indian Army in collaboration with Sarhad Pune and the local administration at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass. Held as part of events leading up to Kargil Vijay Diwas, the marathon featured 3, 5, 10 and 21.1-kilometre races. Civilians, students, athletes, Army personnel and fitness enthusiasts participated in the event, which began and concluded at the Drass War Memorial.
Dignitaries, including Members of Parliament Dr. Shrikant Shinde and Hanifa Jan and Maharashtra Minister Yogesh Kadam attended the event. The dignitaries also paid floral tributes to soldiers who laid down their lives in the 1999 Kargil War.
Shauryathon aims to promote patriotism, fitness, national integration and adventure tourism while honouring the bravery and sacrifice of the nation’s heroes.
