In Nagaland, Kohima Police seized around 20,000 tablets of suspected Yaba, or methamphetamine, worth an estimated one crore 60 lakh rupees, and arrested two persons in connection with the alleged interstate drug trafficking case. The seizure was made during routine vehicle checking at Kidima Prayer Park Junction, located in Kidima village in Kohima district, where police intercepted a Hyundai Venue bearing an Assam registration number.
Police said, they noticed suspicious modifications in the vehicle, and conducted a detailed search which led to the recovery of several packages of suspected Yaba tablets from concealed cavities in the vehicle’s floorboard. The two arrested persons have been identified as 36-year-old Nazrul Islam and 40-year-old Deben Kumar Das, both from Silchar in Assam.
According to police, preliminary interrogation indicated that the consignment was being transported from Churachandpur in Manipur to Silchar. A case has been registered at Kezocha Police Station under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Further investigation is underway to trace the wider network and supply links involved in the trafficking.
