The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has achieved a historic milestone in the financial year 2025-26, recording sales of one lakh 87 thousand crore rupees. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi today, KVIC Chairman Manoj Kumar said that this milestone has been achieved due to the hard work of millions of rural artisans. He underlined that compared to the year 2013-14, a remarkable growth of 501 percent in sales, 380 percent in production, and 56 percent in employment generation has been recorded over the last 12 years.
Mr Kumar said that 12 years ago the turnover of Khadi industry stood at only 30 to 32 thousand crore rupees. He said, KVIC is providing employment to more than two crore people of which 80 per cent are women. The Chairman said that KVIC will soon launch e-commerce platform to further boost the business of khadi products. He added that Khadi is no longer merely a traditional product, but has evolved into a vibrant symbol of the New India self-reliant, indigenous pride, and rural prosperity.
