The Vizhinjam International Seaport in Keralam welcomed its 1,000th commercial vessel this evening. The landmark achievement was clocked with the arrival of the massive mother ship, MSC Luciana. With this achievement, Vizhinjam has cemented its reputation as one of the fastest-growing ports in the world, having handled 1,000 ships in less than two years since it commenced operations.
The port’s historic journey began on July 11, 2024, when it welcomed its very first commercial vessel, Maersk’s San Fernando. The seaport was officially dedicated to the nation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and its full-scale commercial operations took off on December 3, 2024.
