The Keralam government has decided to restore the charge of police stations to sub-inspectors, reversing the previous system under which Inspectors served as Station House Officers. The change will take effect from August 15.
Announcing the decision, State Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said sub-inspectors will serve as SHOs in 410 police stations across the state.
Inspectors will continue as SHOs in 64 major police stations, while in one police station, an officer of the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police will continue to function as the Station House Officer.
The move reverses a decision taken by the previous LDF government, which had upgraded Station House Officer posts to the Inspector level.
