In Keralam, direct export and import operations at the Vizhinjam International Seaport commenced today, marking a significant milestone for the region’s maritime trade.
Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan flagged off the first shipment from Vizhinjam, sending off two containers bound for Europe. Akashvani correspondent reports that the inauguration of direct export-import activities comes after the port was dedicated to the nation on May 2 of last year. With the launch of these direct services, transit times for shipments to Europe are set to drop significantly.
Previously taking nearly two months, shipments from Vizhinjam are now expected to reach European destinations in just 28 days. Port authorities confirmed that the facility will currently handle full container loads, FCL only for the time being.
