In Kerala today, thousands of devotees flocked to Kerala's bathing ghats and temples to participate in the "Karkidaka vavu Bali" ceremony.
Akashvani's report correspondent: The Karkidaka vavu Bali is a ritual followed by the devotees to pay obeisance to the departed ancestors in their families. The rituals began in the early morning hours with special poojas. Large number of devotees gathered in Aluva Manappuram, Thirunavaya, Varkala, Thirunelly, Pampa and other prominent balitharpan' sites across the state. Special arrangements were made in the state to ensure sufficient amenities for the worshippers. Traffic was restricted in certain areas for the smooth conduct of the ritual.
