Kerala High Court upholds migrant worker’s death sentence in 2016 rape and murder of law student

The Kerala High Court today upheld the death sentence awarded to a migrant labourer from Assam, Muhammed Ameer-ul Islam, in connection with the rape and murder of a law college student that took place in Perumbavoor in Ernakulam district in 2016.

 
A Division Bench of the High Court comprising Justices P B Suresh Kumar and S Manu confirmed the death sentence awarded by the Ernakulam Sessions Court and dismissed an appeal filed by the accused against the lower court order.
 
The prosecution case was that the accused trespassed into the house of the victim,  attempted to rape her and was murdered when she resisted him.
