Kathmandu to Host First-Ever Film Festival from Tomorrow

Kathmandu will host its first-ever Film Festival from tomorrow. The three-day event will bring together Nepali and international filmmakers, artists and cinema enthusiasts.

Organised by Kathmandu Metropolitan City, the Kathmandu Film Festival aims to promote Nepal’s cinematic heritage and showcase local talent. It will also connect Nepal’s film industry with the international creative community.

Renowned Indian actress Shabana Azmi will participate in an interaction titled “Films, Festivals and a Life Well Lived” at the Nepal Tourism Board on Saturday.

Other international guests include film scholar Marco Müller, Japanese director Takayuki Nakamura and Indian film programmer Deepti D’Cunha. Discussions will focus on cinema, creative cities and international film festivals.

The festival will screen films from several countries. These include India’s Bayaan, China’s Dear You, South Korea’s The King’s Warden and the American classic The Godfather.

Special screenings of classic Nepali films, including Kumari and Ke Ghar Ke Dera, will also be held. The festival, which concludes on Sunday, will feature masterclasses, discussions on the evolution of Nepal’s film industry, and short films and documentaries by emerging filmmakers.
