Three workers suffocated to death following a chemical leak in the Kadechur-Badiyal industrial area near Saidapur in Yadgir district of north Karnataka today. The incident took place early this morning. Two workers exposed to the leak are admitted to hospital in Raichur.
The Deputy Commissioner of Yadgir district Rahul Tukaram Pandve has said that the deaths occurred due to inhalation of sulphur oxide in a leaked pipe at a plant manufacturing pharmaceutical chemicals. The workers were from Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
He said that FIRs have been filed against the owners and others. He said that there is no further leakage at present. The NDRF and forensic teams will be deputed to find out the causes of leakage and safety measures.
