Karnataka: Seven workers killed in rock collapse in Bengaluru

Seven migrant workers have lost their lives after a big chunk of rock slid and fell on them in the Bengaluru South taluk today. The tragedy struck at the Kaveri Crusher stone quarry in Madapatna village. While moving a massive rock at the top of the quarry, it slipped and fell downhill into the quarry pit where the labourers were working.

Those injured were evacuated from the accident site and are currently under medical treatment. The police have registered a case, and the hunt is on for the owners of the quarry. Those dead belonged to Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and north Karnataka.

The Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, Dr G Parameshwar, has expressed grief over the incident and said that suitable action will be initiated against the owners of the quarry who failed in safeguarding the safety of the workers under them.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended condolences over the loss of lives due to the mishap. In a social media post, Mr Modi prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
