JNPA commences first long-haul double-stack Dedicated Freight Corridor rake operation

The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) has commenced its first long-haul double-stack Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) rake operation, marking a major boost to rail connectivity and cargo evacuation. The rake departed from JNPA at 7 pm yesterday, carrying 360 TEUs of import cargo that arrived through BMCTPL, operated by PSA, and was bound for CGMV.

The double-stack operation will allow larger volumes of cargo to be transported in a single rake, helping reduce import dwell time, speed up cargo evacuation and improve supply-chain efficiency.

JNPA said enhanced integration with the DFC network will strengthen connectivity between the port and key inland destinations, providing faster and more predictable movement of EXIM cargo.

The initiative is expected to reduce logistics bottlenecks and support the competitiveness of India’s international trade by enabling faster and more efficient rail-based freight transportation.
